AIKEN, S.C. – The 2009 Peach Belt Conference regular season champion USC Aiken Pacers learned on Monday that they had moved to second in the latest Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30.

The No. 2 ranking is the highest ever for the USC Aiken baseball program.

USC Aiken, who was fourth last week, is behind No. 1 Southern Arkansas, who received 480 total points. Southern Arkansas is currently 44-9 in 2009. USC Aiken received 458 points to move up to second just ahead of Ashland (450 points).

The Pacers are not the only PBC squad in the top ten as Francis Marion is currently tied for ninth with Delta State. The Patriots finished in second place in the PBC regular season standings behind the Pacers.

The Pacers and Patriots are two of five PBC schools currently ranked in the top 30. Georgia College & State is presently ranked 17th, while Armstrong Atlantic State vaulted back into the top 30 at No. 22. The Pirates have won nine of their last ten.

UNC Pembroke is the final ranked PBC team coming in at No. 29 in a tie with Indianapolis and Slippery Rock.

USC Aiken concluded the 2009 regular season with a 39-16 record. USC Aiken finished the regular season by winning 23 of its last 27 games.

The Pacers obtained the 2009 PBC regular season championship with an 18-9 league mark. USC Aiken opened the conference season with just a 1-5 record, but the Pacers from that point forward went on to claim a victory in their final seven PBC series. The Pacers were able to sweep three of their final four conference series. The stretch helped the Pacers to claim a victory in 13 of their final 14 PBC contests.

The PBC regular season championship is the second overall and the first for the Pacers since the 1994 campaign. The Pacers have also won the PBC Tournament twice (1992 and 1993) in program history.
