Former Masters amateur playing in Hooters tour event

Friday May 1, 2009

MCCORMICK, SC--Second round of the Savannah Lakes Village Classic is winding down in McComick. Always some great story lines. Did you know there's actually one young man who's played in The Masters and played in the US Open???

That's righ. Michael Thompson is his name and played in both tournaments as an amateur last year. The Alabama grad is now trying to make it a career and cut his teeth on the Hooters Tour. Needless to say the memories of playing at The National are as vivid as ever and having played in The Masters is the driving force to return.

"I really, really, really, really want to go back" said Michael Thompson "It's a goal of every golfer but having tasted it and experienced it and now that I know how to play the golf course, next time I get there it's going to be a lot of fun. I'll never forget that experience at Augusta, or the US Open. It's just so special to play in those two events as an amateur. There's only so many guys who can say they've done that."

Thomson shot a two under 70 on Friday and will be around for the weekend. The tournament runs through Sunday.
