On the heels of a 10-3 campaign last year, Mark Richt is pretty happy. He has a successful program, more great recruits coming in, and one of the best fan bases in the nation.
The coach was in Augusta Monday, hanging out with the Augusta Bulldog Club. As usual, a huge crowd on hand to hear the coach speak about all things Georgia football. No doubt coach Richt was very happy to see six of his former players selected in this weekend's draft. but that also leaves some huge holes to fill for this year's team. As of now, he's optimistic.
"I'm excited about this season," said Richt. "I like the mental makeup of this team so far. I like their attitude and their work ethic to this point. I've spent a lot of time meeting with our seniors and they seem to be very sincere about leading this team in the right direction."
We're still months away from Georgia's first football game in September against Oklahoma State.
Joining Coach Richt on the drive from Athens was new Bulldog basketball coach Mark Fox. Fox hasn't been on the job that long. Just three weeks in fact so he's still settling in his new digs. But one thing he does know is that he has a lot of work to do to turn around a Georgia program that has really struggled in the past years.
"Certainly, we're going to have some work to do in the state and in the region to bring people's belief in our program back," said Fox. "But we're confident we can do that."
Fox also said that he and Richt have become great friends already, something he hopes will help both programs.
