Sunday, April 26, 2009. (AP) -- The Carolina Panthers have selected defensive tackle Corvey Irvin of Georgia in the third round of the draft as they continue to add depth to their defensive line.
A day after the Panthers traded next year's first-round pick to take defensive end Everette Brown, Irvin is expected to give the Panthers depth at tackle behind Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis.
Selected with the 93rd overall pick on Sunday, the 6-foot-3, 301-pound Irvin was a junior-college transfer before moving into a starting role with the Bulldogs early last year. The Augusta, Ga., native was known as a run-stopper, an area Carolina struggled to do late last season.
The Panthers have four more picks on Sunday, including two in the fourth round.
