CARTHAGE, N.C. – Fourth-ranked USC Aiken moved up two spots in Tuesday’s final round to finish the 54-hole 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament at the par 72, 6939-yard Little River Golf Club in fourth place as a team.
USC Aiken had entered Tuesday’s final round in sixth place.
The Pacers carded their best team round of the tournament in the third round, shooting a cumulative team score of 294 on Tuesday. USC Aiken finished the tournament with a total team tally of 888 (296-298-294).
Four-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection Roberto Diaz (Veracruz, Mexico) ended the PBC Tournament in a tie for 14th place at 222. Diaz opened the 2009 PBC Tournament by carding a 69. He stumbled in the second round with an 80, but the three-time All-America selection rebounded with a 73 on Tuesday.
Diaz was one of four Pacers to finish in the top 21 in the event.
J.P. Solis (Morelia, Mexico) shook off an overall not great first two rounds by shooting a one-under-par 71 in the third round on Tuesday. Solis finished with a three-round tally of 223 (75-77-71).
Solis’ tally tied him with Matt Giftos for 17th place at the tournament. Giftos after a 78 in the first round shot an even 72 in the second round and a one-over-par 73 in the third round to net the 223.
Kevin Grady (Woodbine, Md.) finished the first two rounds of the tournament in a tie for 10th place to pace USC Aiken in the first two rounds. Grady could not keep things going for himself in the third round, shooting a 78 to finish in a tie for 21st at 225 (74-73-78).
USC Aiken was the defending Peach Belt Conference champions and they were aiming for their ninth PBC Tournament title in the event.
