CARTHAGE, N.C. – USC Aiken concluded the first two rounds of the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament at the par 72, 6939-yard Little River Golf Club in sixth place.
Round two has yet to be completed yet all the way though as Will Wilcox of Clayton State, Charlie Hoyle of Lander and Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic will complete the final two holes of their second round tomorrow morning.
Nevertheless, the fourth-ranked Pacers carded a two-round score of 594 (296-298) to sit in sole possession of sixth place after day one.
Four-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection Roberto Diaz (Veracruz, Mexico) led the Pacers’ efforts in the first round with the three-time All-America selection shooting a three-under par 69.
Diaz would not fare as well in the second round, shooting an 80 to finish the first two rounds in a tie for 19th at 149.
Kevin Grady (Woodbine, Md.) finished the first two rounds of the tournament in a tie for 10th place to pace USC Aiken. Grady carded a two-round tally of 147 (74-73).
USC Aiken’s Matt Giftos (Nashua, N.H.) rebounded well from a poor first round to finish the day in 25th place with a two-round score of 150 (78-72).
The third and final round will commence on Tuesday morning. USC Aiken is the defending Peach Belt Conference champions and they are aiming for their ninth PBC Tournament title in the event.
