COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina reserve defensive end Kerry Bonds has been kicked off the team after he was arrested for assault.

Coach Steve Spurrier announced Tuesday Bonds is no longer on the team for violating team rules.

Bonds was arrested on a felony assault charge Saturday. Police say he attacked a female student at a dorm a day earlier.

An arrest warrant says Bonds held the woman by her arms, pinned her against a wall, then forced her into a chair and tried to choke her.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound freshman from Florida saw limited playing time in two games this season.

He is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison.
