Pacers claim another golf crown

AIKEN, S.C. – Top-ranked USC Aiken won its second consecutive tournament with a victory at the 12th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.

The Pacers claimed their fourth team title of the 2008-09 season at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The Pacers also won the Kiawah Island Invitational and the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in the fall of 2008. They opened their spring season a couple weeks ago by claiming top honors at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.

The Pacers also obtained their fourth Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate title with Tuesday’s victory. USC Aiken has won three of the last four Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate titles.

The Pacers posted a three-round score of 860 (280-293-287) to earn the victory in the event. The Pacers led wire to wire. The Pacers had the low team round in two of the three rounds.

Liberty finished in second 15 strokes behind the Pacers with a three-round tally of 875 (283-294-298).

The Flames were led by Robert Karlsson, who claimed individual medalist honors at the event. Karlsson carded a three-round score of 209 (67-73-69). He tied for the low round of the day in the final round on Tuesday.

Charleston Southern’s Kelvin Day finished in second place individually with a three-round tally of 210 (72-66-72). Day’s 66 in the second round was the low score of the event.

USC Aiken in total had two players finish in the top six with J.P. Solis (Morelia, Mexico) finishing fourth to lead the way for the Pacers’ team effort. Solis carded a three-round score of 214 (67-72-75). Roberto Diaz (Veracruz, Mexico) shot a 216 (70-75-71) to conclude the event in sixth.
