Siler's 24 points leads Augusta State to eighth straight win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State shot 55 percent Wednesday night and stretched its winning streak to eight in a row with an 85-70 Senior Night victory over Columbus State in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The victory improved No. 5 ASU to 22-4 overall and to 16-3 in the Peach Belt Conference. The win extended the Jaguars’ Peach Belt Conference home winning streak to 15 in a row, dating back to last season. With the win, the Jags improved to 11-1 at home this season and finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play.

The Jags remained in a tie with USC Aiken atop the PBC standings. The 11th-ranked Pacers topped Clayton State 58-53 in Morrow, Ga.

ASU senior center Garret Siler booked a game-high 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sophomore reserve guard Caleb Brown drained 5-of-8 3-point attempts en route to a career-high 22 points and junior guard Ben Madgen added 10 points.

Sean Miller paced the Cougars (8-17, 6-13 PBC) with 21 points and Chris Telesford chipped in 13 points. Owen Brow added 11 points off the bench.

ASU shot 59 percent in the second half and 54.5 percent for the game. The Jags matched their season high by connecting on 10 3-pointers – seven in the second half -- and won the rebounding battle 36-22.

The Cougars shot 46.9 percent from the field, including 52 percent in the second half. CSU canned 6-of-19 3-point attempts, but connected on just one 3-pointer in the second half.

in the women's game, Columbus State held off Augusta State, 67-64 on Wednesday in a Peach Belt Conference matchup on Senior Night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

With the win, the Lady Cougars improved to 16-3 overall and 9-10 in conference play. The loss dropped ASU to 5-21 overall and 3-16 in the league. The loss was the ninth straight for the Lady Jags.

Junior Jasmine Godwin paced the Lady Jags with 16 points and six assists. Sophomore Stacey Lampkin earned her first career double-double with a career high of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Brittany Jarrard netted 14 points off the bench, while senior Tracey Paschal tallied 10 points.

For Columbus State, junior Phebe Smith led the team with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Hali Moore added a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Nikki Urbizo added 12 points for the Lady Cougars.
