3rd ranked Pacers golf 5th after first round at Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. – The nationally third-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is in fifth as a team after the first two rounds of action at the Bobcat Invitational at the 6,730-yard, par-70 Cuscowilla Golf Resort on Lake Oconee.

USC Aiken posted its second-best team round of the 2012-13 season in round two to finish the first two rounds with a two-round team tally of 574 (291-283).

Fresh off his individual medalist honors last week at the 16th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, 2012 First-Team All-American Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) posted a USC Aiken career-best 66 in round two. The 4-under 66 in round two allowed him to finish the first two rounds of action tied for fifth individually at 139 (73-66).

All five Pacers are presently in the top-55 individually with JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) and Taylor Welborn (LaGrange, Ga./Darton) joining Atkins in the top-30.

Solis is currently tied for 14th at 143 (70-73), while Welborn is tied for 27th at 146 (73-73).

Nationally seventh-ranked Lynn is in the lead after the first two rounds of action. Lynn at 565 (279-286) is just one stroke ahead of national No. 2 Nova Southeastern, who ended its first two rounds with a team score of 566 (281-285).

Armstrong’s Gus Wagoner owns the current individual lead at 135 (69-66).
