Lady Rebels on a roll

Ask just about any basketball coach and they'll tell you defense wins championships. Well if that's the case, then the Strom Thurmond Lady Rebels are in good shape, especially with the playoffs just one week away.

Onw word to describe the Lady Rebels defense is sitngy. In fact, they are holding their region opponents to less than 30 points a game, a big reason why they haven't lost a region game yet.

Their offense though isn't too bad either. The Lady Rebels are led once again bu guard Courtney Mealing, who just scored 30 points last Friday. But unlike last season, when she was the only offensive weapon, this season, Mealing is getting help from her teammates, which will definitely be a key to them making a deep playoff run.

"Keep playing great defense" is one key, said head coach Jessica Parker. "Just play defense and the other key defense is we've had other people who have stepped up with scoring in double figures in our region games. So keep playing defense and continue to have people step up."

"Citiyah (Burton), she's going out and scoring like 10 points a game and making much more of her threes," said Mealing. "And most of all, when I throw the ball in the post, they are making most of their layups. So that's helping me out a lot."

The Lady Rebels will try and keep their perfect region record in tact with games against Saluda and Gilbert this week.
