AIKEN, S.C. – Chris Grandinetti finished with a game-high tying three hits in No. 6 USC Aiken’s 8-6 loss to Lincoln Memorial on Friday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

The loss was the first of the year for the preseason consensus top 10 Pacers. USC Aiken, who downed Wingate 15-6 in their first game of the year last Sunday, is now 1-1 on the 2009 campaign. Lincoln Memorial is currently 2-1 on the year.

The score 6-6, Ralph Rosas secured the winning run for the Railsplitters in the top of the ninth inning when he doubled to right center to plate Tommy Casto, who had entered the game as a pinch hitter earlier in the inning. Casto picked up a double to put himself in scoring position.

The Railsplitters would pick up one more run in the top half of the inning to pick up the 8-6 victory.

Rosas’ game-winning double came off USC Aiken reliever Chad Benefield (Dallas, Ga./Southern Union CC).

Benefield had entered the game earlier in the stanza in relief of Justin Fry (Augusta, Ga./Darton), who had allowed the double to Casto to start the ninth for Lincoln Memorial.
