USC Aiken's Morgan Johnson repeats as player of the week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken’s Morgan Johnson was named the Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week for the second onsecutive week by the league office on Monday, Feb. 2.

The award is the third overall for the senior transfer from Presbyterian College. In addition to last week’s honor, she also claimed PBC Player of the Week accolades on Nov. 26, 2007.

Johnson (Marietta, Ga./Walton) is the second Pacer to claim the award in the 2008-09 season as Meredith Legg (Huntersville, N.C./Hopewell) has acquired the award twice this season.

Johnson’s obtainment of the weekly honor by the PBC on Monday gives a USC Aiken women’s basketball student-athlete the award in four of the last five weeks.

Johnson averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers last week. The senior made 14 of her 20 field goal attempts in USC Aiken’s two wins last week.

She began the week by just missing out on her fourth consecutive double-double in USC Aiken’s win over UNC Pembroke last Wednesday. Johnson finished the game with 13 points and nine rebounds in the win over the Lady Braves.

Johnson was 6-for-10 from the floor in the win over UNCP.

In USC Aiken’s win over Armstrong Atlantic State at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 31, Johnson concluded her efforts on the evening with a career-high tying 23 points and 11 rebounds. She has now scored 23 in a game three times in her career.
