SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Phil Mickelson tied for 121st. Nick Watney is alone at the top of the crowded leaderboard. That's the summary of the second stateside event this season on the PGA Tour.
Augusta native Vaughn Taylor had it at -7 at one point Friday, but three late round bogeys cost him as Taylor sits -4 at the midway point.
Local favorite Mickelson has missed the projected cut by seven strokes. Watney shot an 8-under 63 to take the second-round lead at the FBR Open. Play was called due to darkness with three players, all above the cut line, still on the course. The actual cut will be made Saturday with completion of the second round.
At 9 under through two rounds, Watney had a one-stroke lead over Charley Hoffman, Matt Kuchar and first-round co-leader James Nitties. Kenny Perry and Cameron Beckman are two shots back.
