AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State’s Shannon Wilkerson was named to the Peach Belt Conference’s preseason all-conference team Thursday, according to an announcement from the league office.

A total of 11 players from the 10-baseball playing member institutions in the PBC were named to the preseason squad, which was administered and voted on by the league’s sports information directors. The preseason team includes representatives from eight different member institutions, with only Francis Marion, North Georgia and Georgia College & State placing more than one player on the squad.

A junior rightfielder from Dacula, Ga., Wilkerson turned in one of the top seasons in ASU history in 2008. He became just the fifth Jaguar to earn All-America honors and the first since Willie Carter in 1999.

Wilkerson ranked among the Peach Belt Conference’s top 10 in nine offensive categories. He paced ASU in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.718), hits (81), doubles (18), home runs (16), RBI (57) and stolen bases (14). He also matched current assistant coach Chris Cooper for the most homers in a single season (16 in 2002) by a Jaguar since Tarry Stokes hit 25 round-trippers in 1994.
