Proposal: Georgia schools must have heat policy for sports

Georgia schools must have a written policy for conducting sports practices during extreme heat and humidity.

That proposal comes after a meeting by the Georgia High School Association.

The group's executive committee approved a statewide policy yesterday.

Under the rule, all schools must have a written policy for the practices during hot weather, but the schools will set their own policies.

Schools also will be required to have a scientifically approved instrument that measures heat and humidity at all practices.

The association will request that the state Board of Education adopt the proposal as a state rule.
