Jags, Pacers Move Up In Polls

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State men’s basketball squad jumped three spots Tuesday in the national rankings, improving to No. 7 in the seventh NABC poll of the regular season.

With the ranking, ASU has now appeared in the top 10 of the national poll for a school-record 11 consecutive weeks, dating back to last season, and has been ranked among the top 25 for a school-record 27 consecutive weeks, dating back to the 2006-07 campaign.

The Jags posted a 3-0 record last week, picking up arguably the biggest regular-season win in school history on Monday, Jan. 5. ASU knocked off previously second-ranked USC Aiken 87-76 in Christenberry Fieldhouse behind a career-high 33 points from junior guard Ben Madgen.

ASU cruised past UNC Pembroke 81-46 on Wednesday, Jan. 7, then rallied from an 11-point, second-half deficit to clip Armstrong Atlantic State 74-72 on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The USC Aiken men’s and women’s basketball teams moved up in the latest NCAA Division II basketball polls released on Tuesday.

The women’s basketball team at USC Aiken moved up two spots to No. 18 in the latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The men’s basketball team at USC Aiken moved back into the top 10 in the latest NABC Division II Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 10.

The 18th-ranked Pacer women went a perfect 3-0 last week to improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in Peach Belt Conference action.

The Pacers have now won five straight games overall. The stretch includes all five of USC Aiken's games since the start of the New Year. The five-game winning streak by the Pacers gives them two five game or more winning streaks in the 2008-09 season.

USC Aiken has been ranked inside the top 20 all season, reaching as high as No. 7 earlier in the 2008-09 season.

The Pacer men went 2-1 last week. They ended the week on a two-game winning streak with dominating PBC wins over Francis Marion and Georgia Southwestern.

USC Aiken’s men’s basketball team is now 9-3 overall. The Pacers are 4-1 in Peach Belt Conference games.

The Pacers have now been ranked in the top 25 in the last 21 polls. USC Aiken has been ranked inside the top 10 in the polls in 17 of the 21 weeks.
