AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Ben Madgen was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week Monday afternoon, according to an announcement from the league office.
A 6-4 junior guard from Williamstown, Australia, Madgen helped lead 10th-ranked ASU to a 3-0 record last week. He poured in a career-high 33 points, including four 3-pointers, in ASU’s 87-76 victory over second-ranked USC Aiken on Monday, Jan. 5 in Christenberry Fieldhouse. He scored nine points in a season-low 22 minutes as ASU cruised to an 81-46 win over UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Madgen then bounced back with 23 points – 14 in the second half – and delivered the game-winning basket on a driving layup with 1.5 seconds left as the Jags rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half and claimed a 74-72 over Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday, Jan. 10.
For the week, he averaged 21.7 ppg., and shot 51.2 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 86.7 percent at the free-throw line while combining for eight 3-pointers.
With his 23 points vs. the Pirates, Madgen moved up to No. 14 on the ASU career scoring list with 1,231 points.
