AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State women’s basketball head coach Tes Sobomehin announced Friday the addition of freshman forward Asha Gwynn to the Lady Jaguar squad.
A native of Woodbridge, Va., Gwynn spent last season at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., and received a medical redshirt. She has four years of eligibility remaining and is immediately eligible for ASU.
“We’re very excited to be adding a player of Asha’s caliber to the program,” Sobomehin said. “She is a true post player with an excellent fundamental skills set. She will add depth to our post line up and keep all post defenders honest in the Peach Belt. Asha comes from a great program at Winthrop and we are very fortunate to have her join us for the remainder of her career.”
A 6-0 forward, Gwynn prepped at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, Va. As a senior, she averaged 9.2 points and 7.0 rebounds and was named a second-team, All-Cardinal District selection. She was also named to the Westfield High School Bulldog Bash Holiday All-Tournament team and to the South County Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team.
The Lady Jags (3-8 overall, 1-3 in the Peach Belt Conference) close out a three-game homestand with first-place Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
