Pacers Back On Track With Win

AIKEN, S.C. – Chris Commons tallied his third double-double of the 2008-09 season and the No. 11 University of South Carolina Pacers downed Francis Marion 89-71 on Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.

Commons finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds overall. He acquired five of his 11 boards via offensive rebounds. The senior forward from Toledo, Ohio was 9-for-19 from the floor overall. He also blocked three shots and collected two steals.

Fellow Pacer senior Brian Egwuatu (Houston, Texas/Texas Southern) led all players in the game with four blocks.

The Pacers in addition to Commons had three other players finish in double-digits. Javonte Clanton (Columbus, Ohio/Blinn College) ended his evening in double digits for the fourth consecutive game in the win over the Patriots. Clanton had 18 points in total. He was 5-for-8 from the field.

The junior transfer also dished out five assists.

Job Casimir (Stamford, Conn./Quinnipiac) and Cordaryl Ballard (Westerville, Ohio/Morehead State) each ended the night for USC Aiken by scoring 12 points. Casimir picked up 10 of his 12 points in the game from the free throw line where he was 10-for-11.

The Patriots (8-2, 1-2 PBC) were led in their loss by Kendrick Smith and Anthony Wallen. Smith ended the game with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Wallen ended the game with 10 points in total.

The Pacers never trailed in the contest, but due to an overabundance of fouls in the game they were never really able to pull away until the final moments with the 18 point lead at the conclusion of the game the largest of the contest for the Pacers.

There was a combined 54 fouls in the game with both teams committing 27 fouls. There were also four technical fouls in the game, including two placed upon Francis Marion head coach Gary Edwards, who was ejected from the game just six minutes into the second half.
