Lady Jaguars Fall To Clayton State 80-69

MORROW, Ga. -- Clayton State outscored Augusta State 46-33 in the second half Saturday for an 80-69 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady Jaguars in the Athletics and Fitness Center.

With the win, the Lakers improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The loss dropped ASU to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Lady Jaguar juniors Jasmine Godwin and Porsha White posted season highs with 25 and 24 points, respectively. Godwin, making her first start of the season, grabbed 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Freshman point guard Brittany Torain handed out a career-best seven assists.

Dominique Jennings and Tanisha Woodard netted 14 points each for CSU. Lesheria Stevens chipped in 12 points and eight assists, while Nikkisha Pritchett added 11 off the bench and Lisa Jackson managed 10.

The Lady Jags shot a season-high 50.8 percent from the field and limited Clayton to 38.6 percent shooting, but connected on only 2-of-10 3-point attempts and were just 7-of-16 from the free throw line.

The Lakers forced 31 ASU turnovers and won the rebounding edge 46-42, grabbing 20 offensive rebounds.

The Lady Jags were without the services of three starters – senior Tracey Paschal and juniors Nicole Mealing and Brittany Jarrard – who were serving the first of a two-game suspension for a violation of team rules.
