Former Greenbrier Star Named All-American

ATHENS, SC-----Georgia junior first baseman Rich Poythress has been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America second team, it
was announced Tuesday.

A native of Grovetown, Ga., Poythress was second on the team in 2008
with a .374 average, 15 home runs and 75 RBI. He had a sterling .995
fielding percentage and became just the second Bulldog to earn a
Rawlings Gold Glove Award as the nation’s top defensive first baseman.

Poythress set a single season school record with 55 assists at first
base and his 535 putouts ranks second best. He was named to the 2008
SEC All-Defensive Team and has also been named to the 2009 Brooks
Player of the Year Watch List.

Poythress and the Bulldogs open the 2009 season against Youngstown
State on Feb. 20 at Foley Field.
