Augusta, Ga--Augusta State finishing off finals and focusing on basketball, all the in same breath. Colleges across the country are facing those challenges this time of year.
Teams like A.S.U. are making the best of it. Whether it's giving the guys a few days off to finish things up, or just start practice without a few players as they take care of business out of the classroom. The important part, is just that, the school work, get that done, then focus on basketball.
"That's why we're called student athletes, students come first, athletes come second" said Augusta State senior Steve Smith "So far we've done well, we have some teammates missing right now because they're taking finals and ending up the semester and hopefully everyone is doing well."
"Well you just have to know how to balance your time. This is my fourth year in college and third playing basketball so I'm use to it." added Fred Brathwaite
Back on the court, it's a big weekend for the 3rd ranked Jags perennial powerhouse Virginia Union comes to town for a Saturday afternoon ballgame. A few years ago they won a national title. Then A.S.U. open's up conference play Monday evening against Georgia College and State. Saturday's game is a 4 o'clock tip off.
