Sunday, December 7, 2008. (AP) -- South Carolina will face Iowa in the
Outback Bowl on New Year's Day in the first-ever meeting of the two schools.
The Gamecocks finished the season with a 7-5 record which included back-to-back losses to Florida and Clemson after winning six of the previous seven games to get themselves eligible for a bowl.
The invitation comes one season after South Carolina finished with a five-game losing streak that shut the Gamecocks out of a bowl appearance.
South Carolina has a history at the Outback Bowl, with consecutive appearances after the 2000 and 2001 season, both times defeating Ohio State.
Iowa snapped out of a three-game losing streak and won five of their next six games, including an upset of Big Ten rival Penn State, to finish the season at 8-4.
