AIKEN, S.C. – The USC Aiken women’s basketball team is ranked 11th in the latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ poll. The poll was released Tuesday afternoon. The new ranking moves the Pacers up nine spots from its preseason ranking of 20th.

USC Aiken is a perfect 6-0 on the year. The 2008-09 edition of the USC Aiken women’s basketball team is just two games away from tying the best start for a women’s basketball team in school history. The best start for a USC Aiken women’s team came during the 1990-91 season when Gail Moody-Johnson’s squad started the year 8-0.

The Pacers defeated then 13th-ranked and current 16th-ranked Tusculum last night (Monday) to improve to 6-0. The win over the Pioneers was the third victory over a nationally-ranked foe in 2008-09 for the Pacers. USC Aiken in addition to 13th-ranked Tusculum had also downed ninth-ranked Delta State and 24th-ranked Anderson. The 6-0 start is the best for USC Aiken in the seven-year Mike Brandt era. The Pacers, who have obtained two consecutive 20 win seasons under Brandt, are now 9-8 against ranked opponents under Brandt.

USC Aiken will take on its third consecutive South Atlantic Conference foe and second straight ranked opponent next in 12th-ranked Wingate on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The game with the 2008 Elite Eight participants is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
