Pacers Commons Named Player Of The Week

AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken’s Chris Commons was named the first Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the 2008-09 season it was announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 24.

The preseason All-American has helped lead the top-ranked Pacers to a perfect 3-0 record. The Toledo, Ohio native averaged 23 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game during USC Aiken’s first three contests of the season.

The 2007 Peach Belt Co-Player of the Year opened the year with 24 points and eight rebounds against South Atlantic Conference power Wingate. Commons followed that up by scoring a season-high 25 points against Barton.

The 6-foot-8 senior forward concluded his week by tying for team-high honors with 20 points and eight rebounds against No. 21 Mount Olive in the 2008 Pickle Classic. Commons shot 46 percent from the field, dishing out six assists and blocking five shots.

Commons ends USC Aiken’s first three games ranked second in the PBC in scoring, eighth in the league in rebounding and fifth in the conference in blocked shots. The Pacers will next open up Peach Belt play against Armstrong Atlantic State at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Savannah, Ga.
