CLINTON, S.C. – Fifth-ranked Augusta State shot 65 percent for the game and knocked off Division I Presbyterian 70-60 Thursday night in front of a crowd of 1,287 at Templeton Center on the campus of Presbyterian College.
ASU junior guard Ben Madgen scored a game-high 18 points, while senior center Garret Siler and junior guard/forward Fred Brathwaite had 12 points each. Junior guard Daniel Dixon and senior center Jason Killeen combined for 15 points off the bench. Siler added four blocks in only 13 minutes of action.
The Jaguars shot 66.7 percent in the first half and outscored the Blue Hose 35-27. ASU jumped out to a 6-2 lead and led for all but 2:05 of the contest. A layup by Braithwaite put the Jags ahead for good at 13-12 with 12:20 left in the opening period. A free throw from Madgen gave ASU its biggest lead of the game at 46-31 at the 14:24 mark of the second half.
