AUGUSTA, Ga.---Even though it was a chilly morning for a run, there was a huge turnout for the inaugural Augusta Half Marathon.
About 800 runners participated in the 13.1 mile race through downtown Augusta to Paine College, MCG, Augusta State University, Lake Olmstead, and then Calhoun Expressway.
Because of the positive response from the runners, the Greater Augusta Sports Council plans to make this marathon one of their signature events.
"We were hoping for 600 maybe 700 runners, and to have nearly 800 is phenomenal," said Randy DuTeau with the Sports Council. "And I think for a first year event and the feedback that we're getting, the runners seem to have a great time."
Organizers expect the run to grow next year.
