Monday October 13, 2008. (AP) -- Tommy Bowden is out as Clemson's football coach.

Receivers coach Dabo Swinney becomes the interim coach of the 3-3 Tigers, who are just off a 12-7 loss to Wake Forest.

Bowden was in his 10th season at Clemson before he met Monday with athletic director Terry Don Phillips and the two agreed he should step aside.

A news conference is scheduled for Monday night.

Clemson started the season ranked No. 9 and was picked to win the ACC. But the team opened with a drugging by Alabama and has been disappointing. Last week, Bowden said he was replacing starting quarterback Cullen Harper with Willy Korn.

Clemson faces Georgia Tech at home this Saturday.
