CHAROLETTE, NC – The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team has been recognized as the No. 1 Division II team in the nation according to The Sporting News.
After posting a 9-22 record two seasons ago, Aiken recorded a school-best 27-4 mark last season finishing sixth in the final DII poll. The Pacers lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to league rival Clayton State (GA).
USCA has five starters returning this season, including one of the best players in DII, Junior Chris Commons (Toledo, OH). The 6-8 Commons has been named to the First Team All-American Team, averaging 21.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last year.
The other veteran starters returning are juniors Job Casimier (Stamford, CT), Kingsley Oguchi (Houston, TX), Cordaryl Ballard (Columbus, OH) and Brian Egwuatu (Houston, TX).
The Pacers first game will be on Thursday November 6 at Clemson, SC against Clemson in an exhibition game with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. Aiken’s first home game will be on Saturday November 15 against Wingate at 3:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
