September 16th Proclaimed Augusta Greenjackets Day

Mayor Deke Copenhaver will proclaim September 16th as Augusta GreenJackets Day in a ceremony in the Commission Chamber at 1:45pm Tuesday, September 16th. The GreenJackets captured the South Atlantic League Championship last week. This was the 10th championship in the history of Augusta professional baseball.

The Augusta GreenJackets also earned the highest winning percentage in all of professional baseball. The Augusta GreenJackets continue to provide affordable, family entertainment throughout the CSRA and are a strong community partner. In 2008, the Augusta GreenJackets set another attendance record with over 200,000 fans cheering on their home town team and single game attendance record with 5,566 on July 4th.

States Mayor Copenhaver, ““I know that the citizens of Augusta join me in congratulating the Augusta GreenJackets on their record setting tenth South Atlantic League Championship. The team truly exemplifies the winning spirit that is sweeping our City and their sustained excellence should serve as an inspiration to our entire community.”
