COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Chris Smelley will start at quarterback
when South Carolina faces Georgia, while Stephen Garcia is expected
to play for the Gamecocks in the Southeastern Conference showdown.
Coach Steve Spurrier spoke of his decision after practice
Thursday. He said Smelley had a good week of workouts and would
make his second straight start.
Spurrier also said he expected to send Garcia in for a few plays
on Saturday. Garcia has not taken a snap since arriving at school
in January 2007. He has missed the past two spring practices
because of suspensions from three run-ins with authorities. Garcia was reinstated to the program Aug. 1.
