Jackets Win, One Step Closer To Title

Greenville, SC – The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 42-21) finished up their road trip on Monday night with a 6-4 win over the Greenville Drive (40-30, 27-36) winning the three game series. David Mixon recorded the win in relief and Augusta connected for four home runs in the game.

The GreenJackets snapped a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning when Angel Villalona scored from third base on a ball hit by Garrett Baker that third baseman Michael Almanzer booted. Dayton Buller followed with a solo home run for a 6-4 lead.

Mixon (2-2) worked 1.2 shutout innings allowing two hits, a walk and striking out two. Ryan Paul pitched the ninth allowing a walk and striking out three for his fourth save of the season.

Augusta jumped out to the early lead in the first inning getting a two-run homer from Thomas Neal with two-outs in the inning after Juan Ciriaco worked a walk.

Greenville came right back in the bottom half of the first inning scoring three times for a 3-2 lead. Jered Stanley had a two-run triple and Rafael Cabreja followed with an RBI single.

The GreenJackets tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning on a solo homer from Baker with one out in the inning, his ninth homer of the season.Augusta took a 4-3 lead in the third on Nick Noonan’s eighth home run of the season, an opposite field solo home run with one out.
