Kannapolis, NC – The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 40-19) came away with a 4-2 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators (31-39, 30-27) on Thursday night. Starter Madison Bumgarner recorded the win and Andrew Davis’ two-run single in the fourth proved to be the game winning hit.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Angel Villalona scored on an RBI ground out from Garrett Baker. Villalona got to third after doubling with one out then moving up on a wild pitch.
The GreenJackets made it 3-0 in the fourth inning when Davis came through with a bases loaded single driving in both Thomas Neal and Villalona. Augusta increased the lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Villalona.
Bumgarner (14-3) worked 6.1 shutout innings allowing six hits, no walks and striking out 10. The southpaw now leads the South Atlantic League in wins (14), strikeouts (155) and ERA (1.45). The Intimidators got two late runs in the eighth inning on a two-out, two-run homer from Mark Fleisher off of reliever Andrew De La Garza.
