GreenJackets get "Masterful" makeover

By  |

When Ripken Baseball took over the Augusta GreenJackets, they said they wanted the team to have the best of everything...and they weren't kidding.

Anyone who has ever attended the Masters tournament or even watched it on TV can tell you that the grounds are immaculate and the grass is perfect.

This season, the same can be said for the GreenJackets’ infield.

The club is using the same sod that is on the Augusta National fairways right now.

The infield was re-sodded earlier but it didn't take, so for the second try they went with the best.

After the National took the sod they needed for the golf course, there was still 3 acres left over.

Enough for the GreenJackets to re-do the infield and the bullpen.

So the Tuesday after the Masters, when the Jackets have their home opener, the Masters' fairways will still be in play.

It's not just the grass getting a makeover.

The ballpark will have a 600 person party deck overlooking the bullpen, a new sound system and press box, and, in perhaps the coolest addition of all, they will install 6 industrial fans throughout the ballpark with 20-foot blades to keep air moving during games this summer.

The home opener is set for April 11th.
