ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Seth McClung took another step toward becoming the Devil Rays' opening day starter after pitching three shutout innings in a 6-to-3 win over the Atlanta Braves today. McClung has pitched five innings this spring without allowing a run.
McClung allowed two hits and struck out two, allowing two walks. Tim Hudson started for the Braves and allowed two hits, striking out two and allowing no runs in three innings.
Toby Hall and Damon Hollins had two hits apiece for the Devil Rays. Matthew Diaz had two hits and a home run for Atlanta.
The Braves opened the scoring in the fifth when Jonathon Schuerholz scored on a single by Diaz. But the Devil Rays came back with two in the bottom of the fifth when Travis Lee and Hall knocked in runs. The Devil Rays scored three more in the bottom of the eighth.
