Jackets Drop Second Straight To Lakewood

Lakewood, NJ – The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 14-6) lost to the Lakewood BlueClaws (38-32, 12-8) for a second consecutive game as Lakewood rallied back from a three run deficit to win 6-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday. Waldis Joaquin suffered the blown save and Augusta lost for the first time this season when leading after eight innings.

The GreenJackets took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning but the combination of Andrew De La Garza and Joaquin could not hold a lead. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded Mike Durant reached on an error from Andrew Davis, his second in the half inning, allowing a run to score. Joaquin then came in and allowed a two-run single to T.J. Warren to tie the game at 5-5.

Lakewood won it in the 10th inning on a one out RBI single from pinch hitter Joel Naughton scoring Travis Mattair from second. Mattair led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. Joaquin (1-2) allowed one run on three hits over two thirds of an inning in his second blown save of the season.

Lakewood took a 2-0 lead in the second inning off starter Daryl Maday getting RBI singles from Mattair and Derrick Mitchell. Augusta came back in the top of the third with four runs for a 4-2 lead. Angel Villalona connected for an RBI double then two batters later Davis came through with a two-run single to give Augusta a 3-2 lead. Elio Sarmiento brought home the fourth run when he reached on a fielder’s choice. The GreenJackets pushed the lead to 5-2 in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI sac-fly from Davis scoring Charlie Culberson from third.
