Dodgers 3, Braves 2

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Nomar Garciaparra made two outstanding plays at first base, Aaron Sele and Lance Carter pitched two scoreless innings each, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3-to-2 Thursday.

Grady Little was a winner in his debut as manager of the Dodgers, who had only four hits and no walks. Four Braves pitchers combined to retire the last 18 batters after Ricky Ledee's leadoff single in the third.

All three Los Angeles runs were unearned, thanks to three errors in the first two innings. Kenny Lofton singled off losing pitcher Jorge Sosa to open the first, and Garciaparra reached base on Sosa's throwing error. Jose Cruz Junior and Bill Mueller hit two-out RBI singles.

Garciaparra signed with the Dodgers as a free agent during the offseason. He had six putouts and two assists in four innings at his new position.

After the Braves scored off winner Brad Penny in the second on Todd Pratt's RBI double, the Dodgers scored what proved to be the deciding run off Sosa in the bottom half on errors by third baseman Cesar Crespo and shortstop Wilson Betemit.

The Braves scored their second run in the eighth off Tim Hamulack on two hits and two walks.
