MIAMI (AP) -- Tiger Woods tamed the Blue Monster, shooting an 8-under-par 64 and taking a one-shot lead over Phil Mickelson after the first round of the Doral Open.
Woods' round included reaching the 603-yard 12th hole in two shots and a string of birdies along the back nine. His 64 is his best score in the first round on the PGA Tour since a 63 in the 2003 Western Open, when he went on to win by five.
Mickleson made three straight birdies around the turn. Joining him at 7-under are rookie Camilo Villegas, Rich Beem and Ryan Palmer.
