BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Akin Akingbala had 21 points and 16 rebounds as Clemson beat Virginia Tech 86-to-81 Wednesday night.
The Tigers outscored the Hokies 14-to-2 in the final 3:50 as Cliff Hammonds' layup with 52 seconds to go gave Clemson the lead for good at 82-to-81.
The Tigers made 13 of their 22 three-pointers to help counter a 57 percent shooting night for Virginia Tech.
Hammonds scored 18 points and Shawan Robinson added 17 points for Clemson, who is now 17-and-11 and 6-and-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Zabian Dowdell scored 17 points and Coleman Collins had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Hokies, who fall to 14-to-14 and 4-and-11 in the A-C-C.
