South Aiken dream season continues vs. crosstown rival

Nov. 4, 2013 South Aiken volleyball has accomplished quite a bit this season. Arguably, more than the program ever has before.

A four seed, in the state playoffs, the Thoroughbreds have reached the SCHSL Lower State semifinals. They will have to travel for the match, but they won't have to go far.

A four seed reaching this round isn't very likely. Getting to play your crosstown rival in that round-- even more of a surprise.

South Aiken meets rival, Aiken High, Tuesday in an unlikely region playoff matchup.

It's been an turnaround year for South Aiken and their five seniors. The year could be even better with a win over the Hornets-- the next win vs. Aiken will be the first win for this senior class.

"Just knowing that this is all we have...these five seniors, we all really want to win and we want to keep going. We're not really looking at Aiken High as 'the Aiken High''s just another opponent in playoffs," senior Bailey Parker said.

"I think everyone just stepped up their drive. They just wanted to win and it was just a different motivation that came out of all of us," senior Lauren Howard said.

Certainly, South Aiken is the underdog playing against one of the best teams in the state-- Aiken hasn't lost very often this season with a 41-4-2 record.
