Jackets Start Second Half With Win

Augusta, GA – The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 1-0) began the second half of the season with a 5-2 win over the Asheville Tourists (46-24, 0-1) on Thursday night. Starter Oliver Odle matched a career high with 10 srikeouts and Jackson Williams broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single.

The GreenJackets plated three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead. Andrew Davis led off the frame with a walk then moved to third on the double by Angel Villalona. Williams followed with an RBI single to chase Asheville starter Sheng-An Kuo.

The very first pitch reliever Matthew Reynolds threw was a wild pitch allowing Villalona to score and Williams to move up to third. Charlie Culberson then had an RBI sac-fly to right-field to cap off the scoring.

Odle (5-4) allowed two runs on seven hits and did not walk a batter over 7.2 innings. Odle left the game after allowing a two-out single to Everth Cabrera in the eighth inning.

Andrew De La Garza recorded his first save of the season working a perfect 1.1 innings while striking out two. Augusta took the early 2-0 lead in the first inning getting an RBI double from Nick Noonan and an RBI sac-fly to left field from Thomas Neal that nearly was a home run.
