Augusta, Ga--Just a week and a half ago we saw Aiken's Paul Williams and Augusta's Vernon Forest step into the ring and fight. This weekend, Ray Whitfield does the same.
The World Boxing Organization's number one ranked flyweight is set to battle Wilfrido Valdez Saturday night in Memphis, all part of HBO's boxing after dark. Whitfield continues to gain noteriety and move up in the rankings as he'll put his undefeated record on the line against the 30 year old Columbian who has 23 wins to his credit. The competition level continues to rise for the "stingray".
"This is a big stage" said Ray Whitfield. "I never dreamed I'd be showing up on H.B.O. one day so it's very big for me, it's very exciting for me and I'm ready for anything right now."
Of course Whitfield has had a couple of nationally televised fights already. This will be his first on HBO as he continues to move more and more into the national spotlight.
