BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- John Smoltz had the labrum in his right shoulder repaired but the Atlanta Braves say it will be months before the pitcher knows if his career can resume.

Braves GM Frank Wren says the prognosis on the 41-year-old
pitcher's shoulder is "unclear based on the findings of today's
surgery."

A Braves spokesman says it will be months before it will be
known if Smoltz can pitch again. The Braves did not release details of the damage to the labrum repaired in the surgery. But Braves manager Bobby Cox says doctors "repaired a lot of damage" in Smoltz's shoulder.
