Augusta, GA – The GreenJackets (7-6) dropped the first game of their seven game home stand with a 2-0 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators (6-7) on Tuesday night. Orlando Yntema suffered the loss and the GreenJackets were shutout for the first time in 2008 as they were held to just three hits.
Kannapolis broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning on an RBI sac-fly from Christian Marrero scoring Sergio Morales from third base. The frame started when Morales walked then Joe Persichina doubled off of Yntema.
Yntema (0-1) worked 5.1 innings allowing one run on four hits. Yntema did not walk a batter and struck out five.
The Intimidators plated an insurance run in the ninth inning off reliever Joe Paterson without the benefit of a hit. With the bases loaded and one out Mike Grace reached on a force out scoring Christian Marrero from third for a 2-0 lead.
Augusta had just five base runners and were held to three hits and two walks in the game. The GreenJackets only had two base runners reach scoring position with none reaching third base.
The GreenJackets and Intimidators continue their series on Wednesday night with Augusta sending lefty Steven Calicutt (0-0, 2.00) to the hill. Kannapolis will counter with right-hander Miguel Socolovich (0-2, 11.25). First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
