Purnell Given Contract Extension at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson coach Oliver Purnell has agreed to
a two-year contract extension through 2014. Purnell took over for the Tigers in 2003. He has a record of 94-67, including a school record 49 wins during the last two years.

Clemson Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips says the team has
seen significant progress under Purnell and the Tigers have become
a contender in the Atlantic Coast Conference. An athletic spokesman says Purnell is to get a raise, but the details haven't been finalized.

Clemson finished third in the ACC regular season this year and
lost to top-ranked North Carolina in the conference tournament
championship game Sunday. The Tigers face Villanova in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday night.
