AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken senior first baseman Chad Jacobsen has been named this week’s Peach Belt Conference baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. It is Jacobsen’s first selection and the first of 2008 for USC Aiken. Last week, Justin Fry was tabbed as the PBC Pitcher of the Week. As a program, USC Aiken has had 35 combined weekly winners in the 17-year history of the PBC.
The 6-1 native of Littleton, Colo. batted .500 and slugged .900 in five games this week. In a pair of mid-week, non-conference contests versus Brevard, the preseason All-Conference player went 3-for-9 with a double, three runs scored, and two RBI.
Over the weekend in the Pacers’ first PBC series of 2008, Jacobsen upped the ante, hitting .636 and slugging 1.273 in three games at North Georgia. On Saturday, he went 4-for-7 in the twinbill with three RBI and three runs scored. His solo homer to lead off the ninth inning was the game winner in the 5-4 series opener. In Sunday’s rubber match, Jacobsen was 3-for-4 with four RBI and his sixth home run of the year.
Jacobsen continues to lead the PBC in batting (.528), slugging (1.000), and on-base percentage (.649).
Winners of eight of their last nine, 14th-ranked USC Aiken (11-3, 2-1 PBC) will host North Greenville on Thursday, February 28 at 6:00 PM at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
