GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Augusta State pounced on Limestone for eight runs in the first inning Sunday afternoon, yet it wasn’t enough as the Saints rallied for a 14-13 non-conference victory at Bob Pervatte Field.

With the win, Limestone avoided a series sweep at the hands of ASU and improved to 4-2 on the season. The loss dropped the Jaguars to 3-4 overall.

ASU sophomores Tony Baker and Alex Sickman each jacked three-run home runs in the first inning and drove in four runs on the day. Baker added a solo shot in the sixth.

The Saints, who pounded out 19 hits off four ASU pitchers, scored once in the second inning and put up six more in the third to pull within 10-7.

The Jags owned a 13-7 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh when LC exploded for seven runs to take a lead. Adam McSwain drilled a three-run homer off ASU junior reliever Jacob Watson to put the Saints ahead to stay.

Kyle Elliott (1-0) picked up the win for the Saints, allowing two hits in the final 2.2 innings. Limestone starter Thomas Fekete lasted only one-third of an inning before giving way to Jordan Liette, who worked the next 6.0 innings and surrendered five hits and five runs – three earned.

ASU sophomore Kyle Payne (1-1) took the loss. Jaguar starter Chris Tyler yielded eight hits and seven runs in 2.2 innings. Freshman Blake Pockrandt relieved Tyler, and was charged with seven hits and four runs in 3.2 innings

The Jags return to action Tuesday when they host Belmont Abbey in a 2:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
