AIKEN, S.C. – A record 119 student-athletes, 51 percent, achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and thus were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in the fall 2007 semester. The 232 student-athletes posted a combined grade point average of 2.895.
Additionally, seven student-athletes, Jose Alfaro (Men’s Soccer), Mandy Gerolstein (Women’s Volleyball), Kristin Hunter (Women’s Tennis), Christopher Kaetz (Men’s Tennis), Satu Leppanen (Women’s Basketball), Keol Newton and Svetlin Penchev (Men’s Soccer), earned a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
A record seven teams posted team grade point averages above 3.0, led by the men’s tennis program at 3.375. The volleyball team had the second-highest GPA at 3.319. Women’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, and women’s soccer also recorded team GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
A total of 22 USC Aiken student-athletes were December 2007 degree candidates, including Nola Grant, Fernando Guevara, Brandy Johnson, Ryan Mitchell, Anthony Sampson, Matt Spivey, Curt Triplin, Kenny Burr, Samantha Blair, Kashetu Usman, Jose Alfaro, Ryan Burton, Eugene Eshun-Phillips, Ryan Jackman, Mayra Kaefer, Nick Lombardo, Leonel Medina, Jon Paul, Georgi Peev, Tommy Rushing, Dennison Scipio, and Ben Tankersley.
