NORTH AUGUSTA, SC---In the course of winning three straight region titles in the past three seasons, the North Augusta girls basketball team also succeeded in consistently overshadowing the boys team. This time around though, there's no question who's grabbing the headlines for the 'jackets.
The boys were putting in their laps at a recent practice. It isn't strange to see the guys running. The 'jackets pride themselves on their conditioning and have gotten the most out of it this season. The boys have exceeded all expectations so far this season with a balanced attack led by division one signee Brian Narcisse, headed to Western Kntucky next year.
A 16-3 overall record is impressive enough, but a perfect 7-0 region mark has coach Al Young in line for the first region title in his four years at North Augusta. Even more importantly, he hopes this year's team will be better suited for the playoffs following last year's first round exit.
Senior small forward Ronald Sims says, "Our coach, he keeps us prepared and we stay in shape so we can run. We normally outrun every other team and we never really get tired."
Adds Coach Young, "I guess the biggest thing between this team and last year is we got a little bit more experience and kids understand what we want to get done. They're working hard and they're a special group."
The 'jackets have a rivalry matchup this Friday as they try and beat South Aiken for the second time this season.
